John has served as lead trial and appellate counsel in a variety of commercial, product liability and securities matters. He's also been selected as national or regional counsel by both product manufacturers and securities broker dealers. He has handled disputes before FINRA, AAA and CFTC as well as regulatory matters before the SEC, FINRA and state securities commissions.
John is a frequent lecturer on mediation and arbitration and has been on the faculty for the fall and spring conferences of FINRA and regional seminars for the Securities Industry and Financial Markets Association.
He is a member of the Securities Industry and Financial Markets Association Legal Compliance & Legal Society, the Defense Research Institute, and the National Society of Compliance Professionals.
John received his B.A. (1973) and M.A. (1977) in English Literature and his J.D. (1977) from the University of Missouri-Columbia. He was a Casenote and Comment Editor of the Missouri Law Review and was admitted to the Order of the Coif. He remains active at the University where he is a member of the Strategic Advisory Board to the Dean of the College of Arts and Science and the Missouri 100 Advisory Board to the President of the University. He was the 2003 College of Arts and Science commencement speaker and received the College of Arts and Science Distinguished Alumni Award in 2005.
His outside interests include literature (from T.S. Eliot to T.S. Garp), music (from Rockabilly to Rachmaninov) and enough exercise to fight a reasonable fight against entropy and age.
