Personal Profile

Alex is an experienced commercial litigator who focuses on business disputes, including contract, unfair competition, and trade secret matters, as well as employment litigation. He regularly represents companies and business owners in high-stakes disputes in state and federal courts across Missouri, Kansas, Nebraska, and Iowa. Prior to joining Berkowitz Oliver, Alex was a junior partner at a national Am Law 100 firm, where he was frequently engaged to represent clients in complex disputes nationwide through arbitration, mediation, and litigation.

Alex’s commercial litigation practice encompasses breach of contract claims, business torts, competitor disputes, and trade secret matters. He regularly represents clients in enforcing and defending restrictive covenant obligations, as well as in claims involving trade secret misappropriation. In the employment arena, Alex defends employers in matters involving discrimination, harassment, wrongful termination, wage and hour violations, and restrictive covenants. He also provides proactive counsel on compliance with federal and state employment laws, helping clients mitigate risk and navigate regulatory challenges.

Alex approaches every matter with trial in mind while pursuing efficient, results-driven resolutions. He also advises companies and business owners on risk mitigation, dispute avoidance, and strategic planning in complex commercial matters. His experience spans a range of industries, including financial services, manufacturing, transportation, construction, insurance, and education.

Alex graduated from Creighton University School of Law in 2017, where he served as Executive Editor of the Creighton International and Comparative Law Journal and was recognized for excellence in trial advocacy upon graduation. Since then, he has been recognized by his peers as a “Rising Star,” regularly presents at continuing legal education seminars, and serves as Vice Chair of the Business Litigation Committee of the Kansas City Metropolitan Bar Association.

Key Matters

  • Achieved summary judgment in an employment discrimination lawsuit alleging gender and age discrimination, securing dismissal of all claims prior to trial in the U.S. District Court for the District of Kansas.
  • Secured dismissal of Missouri Franchise Act claims and summary judgment on remaining breach of contract and wrongful termination claims on behalf of a national franchisor in the U.S. District Court for the Western District of Missouri.
  • Defended a small business and its owners against a preliminary injunction in the U.S. District Court for the District of Nebraska, defeating claims of trade secret misappropriation and tortious interference with business relations.
  • Secured summary judgment on negligence claims in Iowa state court on behalf of a franchisee of a national truck rental company, eliminating liability exposure before trial.
  • Obtained dismissal of a class action on behalf of a national manufacturer of aerosol computer keyboard cleaners.
