Two Experienced Litigators Join Berkowitz Oliver

Two attorneys have recently joined Berkowitz Oliver.

Jim Humphrey joined the firm as a partner on September 3. Jim is an experienced trial attorney who comes to the firm from his previous position as a Senior Trial Attorney in the Division of Enforcement at the U.S. Commodity Futures Trading Commission. At the CFTC, Jim investigated violations of the Commodity Exchange Act and CFTC regulations, including in the areas of solicitation fraud and Ponzi schemes, virtual currency investments, foreign-exchange fraud, spoofing, manipulation, insider trading, fictitious and wash trading, money laundering, and aiding and abetting liability. Prior to joining the CFTC, Jim was a shareholder at Polsinelli in its Commercial Litigation Practice Group. Jim began his legal career clerking for the Hon. Gary A. Fenner of the United States District Court for the Western District of Missouri. Jim is a graduate of Creighton University School of Law and the Metropolitan State University of Denver.

Lauren Tallent joined the firm as an associate on September 9. Lauren returns to Kansas City after practicing commercial litigation in Norfolk, Virginia at Kaufman & Canoles. Lauren has experience in a broad range of civil litigation matters including breach of contract cases, business entity disputes, property title disputes and trespass claims, Freedom of Information Act cases, and intellectual property matters. She began her legal career clerking for the Hon. Mark S. Davis, Chief Judge of the United States District Court for the Eastern District of Virginia. She graduated from Washington & Lee University College of Law and the University of Kansas.
