Firm Chili Cook-off Kicks Off Super Bowl Weekend

The firm held its annual Chili Cook-off on February 9, 2024. The Chili Cook-off is an event held every year to honor firm employees Lynne Clark and Lois Steward. While it is typically held in October to coincide with Breast Cancer Awareness Month, this year, a delay to February meant it was also an opportunity to celebrate our hometown Kansas City Chiefs on Red Friday. Firm employees were encouraged to wear red or pink.

This year’s Chili Champion was Diamond Thomas, whose “Aunt Bobbi’s Famous White Chicken Chili” topped the eight entries. Also competing with chili entries were Yasmin Herdoiza, Blake Saffels, Sharon Stallbaumer, Jeff Morris, Donna Gonzalez, Erin Miller, and Jake Creekmore. Diamond took home the coveted Pepper Belt Buckle.

The event also featured our third-annual Cornbread Bake-off, won this year by Lauren Tallent and her “Kingdom Cornbread.” A special entry of “Chiefs Corn-dom” by Stacey Gilman was featured, but ineligible for the top prize (as Gilman is a prior winner). Also competing with cornbread entries were Carson Hinderks, Megan Costello, Erin Miller, and Shay Williams. Lauren took home the Golden Spatula.

The firm gathered after the Cook-off to show of their Red Friday attire. Former Chili Cook-off and Cornbread Bake-off winners posed with their belt buckles and spatulas after the event: Stacey Gilman, Lauren Tallent, and Jennifer Wieland (left to right).
