Berkowitz Oliver Employment Counseling Group Publishes Client Alert on Emergency Leave Law

Partner Jennifer Wieland presented on being a lawyer to students at Career Awareness Day at Prairie Ridge Elementary in Shawnee, Kansas on February 12, 2020. She discussed what lawyers do, why they are important in our society, and school subjects that are helpful preparation for law school. Wieland was named a 2019 Super Lawyer for Business Litigation.

Nemechek, Villanueva Obtain Defense Verdict in Chicago Employment Trial

On January 21, 2020, Berkowitz Oliver partners Kathy Nemechek and Jocelyn Villanueva obtained a complete defense verdict in a six-day trial in an employment case for client Ford Motor Company. Tried in federal court in Chicago, the case involved allegations of racial discrimination, harassment and retaliation under Title VII and Section 1981.

The firm held its annual Chili Cook-off competition on October 17. The Chili Cook-off coincides with Breast Cancer Awareness Month every October. Firm Teddy Bear Drive Benefits Bears on Patrol

Paralegals LeeAnn Parmenter and Rachel Scribner, in connection with the Kansas City Paralegal Association , organized a firm “teddy bear drive” to benefit the Kansas City Police Department’s Bears on Patrol Program. Nearly 300 furry friends came through the doors of Berkowitz Oliver in connection with the drive. This is the firm’s second year hosting a teddy bear drive to benefit the Bears on Patrol program.
